An Exceptional and Rare Dunhill Travelling Cocktail Set, made by P. H. Vogel & Co for Alfred Dunhill Ltd, mid 20th Century
$10,000 AUD
This fine and complete set in very good vintage condition, is in electroplated nickel silver housed in a leather fitted case. The set comprises: four flasks, a double jigger, a funnel and a cocktail shaker containing eight tumblers and a bitters glass silver topped bottle, all fitting neatly and precisely in the case and cocktail shaker. Miraculously this set has also retained its original key making it one of the most complete and original sets to come onto the market. This is also one of the only complete sets to have been offered in Australasia. The fitted brown leather case opens to reveal a Lucite serving and preparation bar. A glimpse into an era of luxury travel, this decadent set would have been for those with a driver and the desire for cocktails on the go.
Dimensions: Height: 22.2 cm (8.7 inch) x Width: 31.5 cm (12.4 inch) x Depth: 11.3 cm (4.44 inch)
Condition: In remarkably well preserved condition. The gilding to the cups is very bright, as with the gilded edges on the bottles and the cork trim throughout, evidence of little to no wear on most pieces. The leather has wear and cracks consistent with age. In order to preserve the originality and authenticity of this piece (as is preferred by museums) we decided not to repair or replace the leather loops at the side which in most known examples of this set have been altered/repaired (the leather loop for the strap worn on one side and torn through the other side).
