A Pair of Art Deco Carved Wood Busts, Woman & Man, Style of Hagenauer Werkstätten Vienna, Circa 1925-1930

Offered and sold as a pair (price is for both sculptures). These exquisitely carved wood Art Deco busts are finely worked all round, depicting a woman and man. Each is set on a concentric wooden plinth. Each weighs aprox 1kg and may be used as decorative sculptures or book ends. These busts are often attributed to Hagenauer Werkstätten and by Karl Hagenauer, however they are more likely made by an artisan inspired by their work. Considering the aged patina, handmade pre war flat head screws and the quality carving we date these carvings to around 1925-1930. Each with handwritten workshop code markings consistent with earlier cataloguing practices before regular use of stamped branding.

The female bust is carved adorned with necklace and earring.
