Czech Bohemian Cut Crystal Vase, Podebrady Glassworks, c. 1972
$400 AUD
An exceptional example of late-modern Czech cut crystal, this striking vase unites traditional Bohemian glass cutting with bold Op Art–inspired geometry of the early 1970s.
The design features sharply executed crosshatch cutting, deeply carved optical lenses, and contrasting smooth and faceted tapering sections that create dramatic light play and a strong sculptural presence. The quality of the crystal and the precision of the cutting are outstanding.
Produced by the Podebrady Glassworks, this documented model appears in Czech Glass Review, January 1972 (p.4). The designer is unlisted, though the work closely aligns with designs by Václav Pravec or Josef Švarc, active at Podebrady during this period.
The vase measures 25.5 cm in height and weighs approximately 1.6 kg, giving it a pleasing sense of scale and substance without overpowering an interior.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or fleabites.
